Invite
Dear
Colleagues,
at the start of this new millennium, the Decade of the Brain is officially
over. However, this does not mean that we can now neglect the role of
basic neurosciences, whose importance in medicine and biology is increasing
all the time. This Congress is intended as opportunity to summarise the
main findings obtained over ten years of intense research in neuroscience
conducted at the C. Mondino Institute of Neurology in Pavia. Our Institute
is indeed well known in Italy for both basic and clinical research through
the activity of its several laboratories. Some of these structures, and
particularly those entirely devoted to basic neurosciences, operate in
collaboration with both the University of Pavia and other prestigious
Universities and scientific institutions in Italy. This is true of the
Center for Experimental Neurobiology "Mondino-Tor Vergata- S. Lucia"
(Rome), and the Research Center of S. Martino Siccomario (Pavia) involving
our Institute, theMaugeri Foundation (Pavia) and the University of Pavia.
National research projects are formally carried out in all these places,
and some even involve laboratories abroad, where many of the neuroscientists
currently working at our Institute carried out periods of research and
fellowships in the past.
We are pleased to invite you to a scientific meeting that will see us
focusing on what we have learned, and on what is still to be done, in
the fields of neurogenetics, neurotoxicity, neurodegeneration, neuroimmunology,
neurooncology and adaptive disorders; these are indeed the subjects under
active investigation at our Institute.
The Congress will also include the 12th OTTORINO
ROSSI AWARD CONFERENCE; this is an established, annual event organised
under the patronage of the C. Mondino Institute of Neurology. As usual,
a distinguished scientist in neurosciences will be acknowledged, and this
year this prestigious award is to go to an expert in the field of mitochondrial
disorders.
I look forward to welcoming you to Pavia, a town of great historical and
cultural interest.
